AI is more than answers: making technology genuinely help learning
When AI can answer instantly, learning products must decide when to give an answer — and when to give a hint.

Today's AI can solve a maths problem in seconds. For learning products, that raises a new question: when answers are effortless, does learning still happen?
The answer isn't the destination
What students really need is often not the answer itself, but the journey from "I don't get it" to "I get it." If AI always hands over a complete solution, students may reach the right answer quickly — and miss the chance to understand.
Hints, guidance and answers
When designing AI problem-solving, we think in layers of support:
- Hints: point to the concept to start from.
- Guidance: break down the steps so students complete the key step themselves.
- Full solutions: for checking and comparing after students have tried.
Which kind of help to offer, and when, remains a design question worth exploring.
Good learning AI should help students think more, not less.
AI as part of the learning journey
AI interactions can also help us understand students: where they get stuck and which hints they need can feed back into concept and weakness tracking, so the next session fits better.
Still learning
There is much we don't yet know about human–AI interaction in education. We'll keep exploring through product work and observation, and share honestly what we learn — and what we're still unsure about.
